CWS Sliding & Patio Doors: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CWS-compatible sliding and patio door parts across Orlando, with most roller, handle, and lock replacements running between $140 and $480 installed depending on the part and your door’s age. If your CWS slider is dragging, sticking, or won’t latch, we can usually get it working the same day. Most owners call us after the door has been stiff for months and finally either jumps the track or refuses to lock at all. By then, the rollers have usually ground down to the metal hubs, and the track has started to wear along with them.
Juniper Windows Orlando is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with CWS, but we stock their most common replacement parts and know these doors well from more than two decades of Orlando-area repair work.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS sliding and patio doors have shipped under several series names over the years, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them. The most common lines we see in Orlando homes are the CWS 70 and CWS 80 series aluminum sliders, plus the CWS vinyl patio door line that started showing up more in the mid-2010s. The quickest way to identify what you have is the white CWS sticker on the top or bottom rail of the door panel, or on the edge of the fixed panel. If that sticker is gone, measure the panel thickness: the 70 series runs about 1-1/4 inches thick, the 80 series closer to 1-1/2, and the vinyl lines sit around 1-3/4 inches.
The compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in older Orlando neighborhoods is that CWS used different roller housings even within the same series depending on the manufacturing year. A 70-series door from 2012 and a 70-series door from 2018 may look identical from the outside but take different roller assemblies. This is one place where knowing the original sticker matters. When the sticker’s gone, we pull a roller and match it by the housing dimensions rather than guessing from the model number on the glass package. For most CWS sliders, we recommend OEM or OEM-equivalent parts rather than universal aftermarket rollers. Universal rollers are cheaper, but their tolerances are looser, and on CWS tracks that already have wear, a universal roller usually means a door that still drags after you pay for the repair.
We also handle CWS-compatible hardware for PGT, CGI, and ES Windows sliders, so if you have a mixed house, one call covers it.
Signs Your CWS Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- The door needs two hands and a hip-check to move. This is the most common failure we see. The rollers have flat-spotted or seized, and every slide is grinding the bearings further. The fix is new rollers, but if you keep forcing the door, the track itself starts to wear and the repair gets more expensive.
- The door lifts or drops when you pull it back. CWS doors ride on adjustable roller carriages; when the adjustment screw strips or the carriage cracks, one corner sags. You’ll feel the panel pop up slightly at the end of the travel. Left alone, the door will eventually start chipping the bottom of the track.
- The lock won’t throw or won’t catch. Florida humidity swells door frames, and CWS lock hardware is mounted tight to the frame. A lock that worked in January and won’t engage in July is a real Orlando thing. Sometimes the fix is a new lock; sometimes the door just needs to be re-squared in the frame.
- You can hear gravel when you open the door. That’s roller debris and metal shavings scraping in the track. By the time you hear it, the rollers are done, and the shavings are accelerating track wear.
- Water or daylight is visible at the bottom corner. Worn rollers drop the panel and the weatherstripping stops making contact. In Orlando’s afternoon thunderstorms, that means water on the floor of your lanai or living room. The weatherstrip is replaceable, but the root cause is the rollers or the panel alignment.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we quote most often for CWS sliding door work in Orlando:
- Roller replacement (both panels, top and bottom): $140 – $280 with parts
- Track repair or replacement on one side: $110 – $220 added to the roller job, depending on track condition
- Lock and latch replacement: $110 – $190 with parts
- Weatherstripping replacement (all sides): $85 – $140
- Panel re-alignment and tune-up: $120 – $180 when it’s not tied to new rollers
Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts. You’ll see the part cost, the labor, and the total, and that number won’t change at the door. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a replacement part fails or the door goes back to dragging within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, parts and labor, in writing.
What drives the range? Mostly door age and whether the track is still salvageable. A 2015 CWS door with good track usually needs nothing but rollers. A 2008 door that’s been grinding for five years often needs track work too.
DIY or Call Us?
Sliding door rollers and locks are not in the same danger category as high-tension garage springs or electrical work, but there is one safety rule we always give: never try to lift a sliding door panel off its track alone. CWS glass packages are heavy, and once the panel is out of the frame, a slip means broken glass and a trip to urgent care. Two people and a flat surface make it safe. Past that, an owner can clean the track, check for loose screws in the door pulls, and clear debris from the bottom rail drain holes. The things that go wrong when owners try to fix rollers themselves are stripped adjustment screws, track damage from prying with a screwdriver, and doors reinstalled cocked that then eat the new rollers in six months. If the door is scraping, dragging, or dropping, call us at (850) 679-8554 before you force it any further. We’ll bring the right rollers the first time because we’ll know what series you have before we arrive.
FAQs
We typically see 8 to 12 years out of CWS rollers in Orlando before they start to fail, with doors on covered lanais lasting longer than doors exposed to direct afternoon sun and storm-driven rain. If your CWS door is pushing fifteen years on its original rollers, you’re on borrowed time. Call (850) 679-8554 and we’ll give you an honest read on what’s left.
In most cases, the door can be repaired; we’d estimate we fix rather than replace CWS sliders roughly 90% of the time. Replacement only makes sense when the frame is rotted, the glass is fogged, or the track is worn through in multiple spots. We’ll tell you the truth either way with a written quote, and estimates are free.
A typical CWS roller replacement takes about an hour to an hour and a half, and a lock replacement runs 30 to 45 minutes. If we need to pull both panels and address track wear, the whole job might stretch to two hours. We book arrival times you can track and send before-and-after photos when it’s done.
We stock the most common CWS 70 and 80 series rollers, locks, and weatherstripping for the doors we see across Orlando, so most repairs happen on the first visit. If you have an odd panel size or a newer vinyl CWS line, we’ll verify the specific part before scheduling. Call (850) 679-8554 and we’ll check our truck stock while you’re on the phone.
